Ms Ma started her education in ballet at the renowned Shanghai Theatre Academy in 2003. The admission rate to this prestigious school was at 0.4% (only 15 candidates were chosen amongst 4000 applicants to be admitted into the Ballet division). She graduated from the Academy’s dance division, the Shanghai Dance School in 2010, where she specialised in Ballet studies and also received extensive training in Character dance and Contemporary dance.
Upon graduation, she was awarded the Singapore MOE Scholarship and accepted the offer to further her dance education in Singapore with Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), where she had the opportunity to learn in an English-speaking environment. She also gained much exposure to dance-related fields of knowledge while continuing dance technique training. During the course of her dance education in Singapore, she was selected to represent her school in various international workshops conducted by Beijing Academy of Dance, Paris Opera Dance Company, The Royal Ballet Company.
Ms Ma graduated with a Diploma in Dance Performance (Ballet) and proceeded to pursue her passion in teaching dance. She then went on to complete 2 years of training in CBTS (Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies) by the Royal Academy of Dance (United Kingdom). Her professional ballet training background for more than 10 years has provided her with an in-depth understanding of the art form and has given her clarity and purpose to her style of teaching.
Ms Ma is also a registered instructor with MOE (Ministry of Education) and has guided multiple groups of students in local primary and secondary schools to compete in the Singapore Youth Festival competition and attained the Distinction Award.
EXAMINATION TRACK RECORD
Ms Ma has more than 12 years of teaching experience under her belt. Her students have an excellent track record at the RAD and CSTD examinations, receiving 100% Merit and above for RAD exams and 85% Honours Plus and Honours for the CSTD exams. Ms Ma has also successfully coached students for Direct School Admission (DSA) into prestigious schools such as Nanyang Girls’ High School, Singapore Chinese Girls’ School, Dunman High School ,School of the Arts Singapore (SOTA) and Crescent Girls’ School just to name a few.
COMPETITION TRACK RECORD
From 2017 to 2023, Ms Ma has groomed students to achieve over 375 solo awards (of which are 94 gold and 113 silver awards) and achieving a 100% gold award record for all 20 group dance items she choreographed for local and international competitions over the years.
